CSKA handball players lost “Gyor” in a Champions League game

Then on February 24, 6. Russian handball club CSKA lost to Hungarian Gyor with a score of 23:27 in the match of the 12th round of the Champions League group stage. The match took place in Moscow.

CSKA are fifth in Group B with 12 points from 12 games. Gyor, who has already secured his place in the quarter-finals, leads the group with 24 points. The previous match between the teams of Hungary ended in victory for Gyor with the score 32:22.

CSKA’s next match in the Champions League will be on February 13 against Turkey’s Kastamonu away. The army team’s group stage will end on February 20 with a home game against French side Metz. The top two teams from each group will qualify for the quarter-finals. Clubs ranked third through sixth will play through the playoffs to reach the quarter-finals.

The Women’s Club Handball Champions League has existed since 1961. Until the 1993/94 season it was called the European Champions Cup. Since the 2013/14 season, the winner has been determined based on the results of the Final Four. Among Russian clubs, only Zvezda from Zvenigorod won the Champions League (2007/08). Soviet teams have won the tournament 16 times.
